Motorcycle Track Day FAQs

Planning your first track day—or getting ready for your next one? Find answers about riding groups, registration, motorcycle preparation, required gear, rentals, and what to expect at Florida Trackdays.

Getting started

What is a motorcycle track day?

A track day gives you the opportunity to ride on a closed racetrack in sessions organized by experience level. Florida Trackdays combines track time with instruction to help you develop your riding skills. A track day is not a race; riders follow group rules, flags, and staff instructions.

Can I attend if I have never ridden on a racetrack?

Yes. If you are new to track riding, choose the Novice group, regardless of how long you have ridden on the street. You should already be comfortable operating your motorcycle; this is not a learn-to-ride course.

Which riding group should I choose?

Choose Novice for your first track day. Riders with previous track experience can select an appropriate Intermediate or Advanced group. For new to Florida Trackdays Intermediate and Advance registrations, you will be contacted regarding confirmation of your prior track experience. Staff may adjust your group based on your riding ability at the track. For riding group bumps contact a Florida Trackdays personnel or coach at the track.  View riding groups and available dates.

Is instruction included with Novice registration?

Yes. Novice registration includes the New Rider School at no additional charge. It is a starting point for learning track procedures and developing your riding skills. Explore the Novice group.

Do I need a racing license or motorcycle endorsement?

Florida Trackdays does not require a racing license, driver’s license, or motorcycle endorsement for track day participation. Riders still need the basic motorcycle operation skills required to participate.

What is the minimum rider age?

The published minimum participation age is 12. If registering a minor, contact Florida Trackdays before booking to confirm eligibility and the required parent or guardian paperwork.

Registration and reservations

How do I register, and how much does it cost?

Select your event date and riding group on the registration page, then complete checkout. Current prices appear on the booking pages. Gear and motorcycle rentals are reserved separately and may require deposits.

My order says “Processing.” Is my spot confirmed?

Yes. A paid order marked “Processing” means your riding session or rental is reserved. The order remains in that status until the experience has been delivered. Check your order confirmation email for the details; contact us if your payment or reservation appears incorrect.

Can I register at the track?

Walk-up registration may be available if your group has space. Advance registration is strongly recommended because groups can sell out. There is a $30 fee for registration at the track.

Can I bring more than one motorcycle?

Yes. Registration is per rider, so you may bring more than one motorcycle without an additional riding registration charge. Each motorcycle must meet preparation requirements and pass technical inspection.

Can I cancel or transfer my registration?

Cancellation credits and refunds depend on how far in advance you cancel. Review the cancellation terms before booking and contact Florida Trackdays to request a cancellation. Selling or transferring a riding spot requires Florida Trackdays approval before event day.

Riding gear and rentals

What riding gear is required?
  • A one-piece leather motorcycle suit, or a two-piece leather suit with a full-circumference zipper joining the jacket and pants.
  • Sturdy motorcycle boots that cover the ankles.
  • Full leather motorcycle gloves; mesh gear is not accepted.
  • A full-face motorcycle helmet manufactured within the last five years and carrying DOT, ECE, or SNELL approval.

Open-face and modular helmets are not accepted. Contact us before your event if you are unsure whether your equipment qualifies.

Can I rent a suit, boots, or gloves?

Yes. Leather suits, motorcycle boots, and gloves are available to reserve online for pickup at the track. Sizes and inventory are limited, so book early. View gear rentals, prices, and sizing options.

How does the Novice gear reimbursement program work?

Register for Novice and reserve the gear you need online. Pay the rental charges and applicable deposits when booking. After participating and returning the equipment undamaged in accordance with the rental policy, qualifying rental charges and refundable deposits are refunded. The gear rental page advises allowing at least 7–10 business days for gear refunds. Read the program details.

Do my riding spot and gear need to be on the same order?

No. You can reserve your riding spot and gear separately. Florida Trackdays associates the gear reservation with your riding group after the event. Make sure both reservations are for the correct event.

Can Intermediate and Advanced riders rent gear?

Yes. Rental charges apply to Intermediate and Advanced riders. Applicable security deposits are refundable when equipment is returned undamaged under the rental terms.

Do you rent helmets?

No. Bring your own qualifying full-face motorcycle helmet.

Can I rent a motorcycle too?

Yes. Florida Trackdays offers motorcycles delivered to the track ready to ride. Check the rental pages for current models, rates, availability, and terms. Explore motorcycle rentals.

Motorcycle preparation and tires

What kind of motorcycle can I bring?

Many types of motorcycles can participate, including sportbikes, smaller-displacement motorcycles, and other suitable road motorcycles. Your motorcycle must be in good operating condition and pass technical inspection. Contact us before registering if you are unsure about your motorcycle.

How do I prepare my motorcycle?
  • Check tires, brakes, and general mechanical condition before arriving.
  • Tape headlights, taillights, turn signals, and wheel weights.
  • Remove or tape mirrors.
  • Use enough tape to prevent the brake light from shining through.

Your motorcycle must pass technical inspection before riding. Ask Florida Trackdays about preparation details specific to your motorcycle or riding group.

Can I use my motorcycle’s stock coolant?

We recommend replacing your coolant with non-glycol coolant such as Water Wetter especially those with track-only motorcycles, but Florida Trackdays will allow stock coolant.

Can I mount a camera on my motorcycle?

Yes, subject to inspection. Cameras must be mounted flush to the motorcycle. Long selfie-stick attachments are not permitted.

Do I need race tires or tire warmers?

Novice riders do not need race slicks or tire warmers to get started. Suitable performance street tires in good condition can be used for initial track days. Tire choice and pressures depend on your motorcycle, tire model, pace, and conditions; speak with the trackside tire team for guidance.

Is tire service available at the track?

Yes. MotorcycleRaceTires.com provides trackside tire service at Florida Trackdays events. Mounting and balancing are included when you purchase tires at the track. Contact the tire team in advance for specific tire availability.

Arrival and event day

What time should I arrive?

Unless your event instructions say otherwise, gates open at 7:00 a.m.(gates may open earlier at track discretion) and the mandatory rider meeting is at 8:15 a.m. Arrive early enough to unload, check in, collect rentals, and complete technical inspection. Follow the schedule sent for your specific event.

Where do I check in at Homestead-Miami Speedway?

The current arrival instructions place registration and gear and motorcycle rentals in garage 22. Garages are first come, first served; leave garages 20–22 available for staff. Check your event information for changes. View Homestead-Miami Speedway information.

How is the riding day organized?

Riders are divided into experience groups that rotate through track sessions. Sessions are generally 18-20 minutes, with the exact rotation being Advance, Intermediate and followed by Novice. Attend the mandatory rider meeting for the day’s procedures.

Do I need a canopy or generator?

At Homestead-Miami Speedway, garage space and electricity are available, so a canopy or generator is not normally necessary. Facilities vary by venue; check your event instructions before deciding what to bring.

What should I pack?

Bring your helmet and riding gear, motorcycle fuel, water and other drinks, food or snacks, a chair, towels, and basic supplies for your motorcycle. A small table and portable fan can make time between sessions more comfortable.

Is food available?

Bring food and drinks so you are prepared for the full day. Food vendors may be available, but check your specific event information rather than relying on onsite food service.

Can friends or family attend?

Yes. A spectator gate fee of $20 is generally charged after 9:00 a.m. Check the event details for the current amount and entry arrangements.

Can I bring a pet?

Pets are permitted but please keep pets on a leash.

Weather and help

Will an event be canceled because rain is forecast?

Florida Trackdays runs rain or shine and does not cancel solely because rain is forecast. Severe weather or unsafe conditions may affect the event. Follow event updates and staff instructions.

What if I still have a question?
